My Promise to God

September 27, 2019 | 0 Comments

Story of Michael, an international student in Montreal.

A pastor’s son, Michael comes from northeast of Batala, India, near the Pakistan border. Most of his home town are Hindus; 80% of the province are Sikhs. His dream: to spread the gospel to all who do not know Jesus.

Before coming to Canada, I promised God that if it is His will to send me to Canada—a country with better opportunities and higher salaries—I would do my best to support missionaries in my home town to spread the gospel and build churches. I thank God for His faithfulness in this journey.

Coming to Canada was not an easy process. Since I didn’t know anyone, I had to figure out everything by myself. In addition to studying, I worked part time as a busboy in a Montreal night club. It was the worst job ever for a non-drinker! I prayed to God for an open door, and He blessed me with a new part time job as a web developer, which aligned with my academic background of software development.

After my studies, I worked full time in a web/application development firm. With this income, I have already begun to fulfill my promise to God and actively support the building of the River of Life church in my hometown Batala (Support this project). It will have a capacity of more than 3,000. Right now, around 400 attendees meet under a tent for Sunday worship. Please pray for us. My dream is to see those in my hometown come to Jesus and to see missionaries and pastors financially supported so their children can get a good education.

While the River of Life Church in Batala, India, is constructed, the congregation of 400 holds services under a gigantic tent.

In addition to helping spread the gospel in my hometown, it is a pleasure to use my gifts to help the development of ISMC’s new website. I first connected with ISMC when I saw a Facebook post that called for volunteers to help with web development. After good discussions with Syncia Chan (ISMC staff in Montreal), I was really inspired by the mission’s vision of reaching international students with the gospel, equipping them to impact the world. What a great fit! This is exactly what God called me to do. May He bless and equip many more international students to impact the world for Jesus!
