Our passion for serving and reaching international students began in Waterloo, ON. Through the overflow of Christ’s love from a friend and supplier for our small strawberry-selling business, we heard about the FOCUS Club for international students. It is hard to overstate the love, friendliness, and dedication of the Waterloo ISMC team. They widened their circle, allowing our family to participate in this opportunity of loving international students and watching Him open their hearts to respond to His Word. Their amazing mentorship and encouragement filled us with enough courage to move to the Hamilton area, where Lidia and our four children join me in reaching international students for Christ.
We asked the Lord to help us walk through doors He opens, use resources He provides, and try not to drown in the busyness of life. Lidia homeschools our children; I teach at a local Christian High School. What a huge encouragement to know God arranges for lost sinners to be drawn to His son through the efforts of people sharing the good news in the power of the Holy Spirit. We really enjoy helping students discover (often for the first time) the amazing grace of God in the gospel as we study the Scriptures together. We are grateful for the many Bible-believing scientists, historians, theologians, and apologists who provide us with an abundance of resources that help us develop an intellectually and emotionally satisfying worldview.
In the summer of 2018, local volunteers and Power to Change (P2C) staff formed a team called Hamilton International Students (HIS). We joined them in the spring of 2019. HIS provides practical, social, and spiritual services for students, as promoted via our website email, and Facebook. Over 100 students attend monthly dinners at a church or park, providing ways to meet new students and build relationships. With the help of family and ministry partners, I build relationships with students and follow up those who want to study the Bible.
We’re also honoured to recently have Kalachand Gilchrist (with wife Sarojini and son Jeremy) join us as a valued partner.
