As a returnee adviser in ISMC’s International Field, I equip students to make a good return to their country, to keep following Christ, and to be connected to local Christian communities.
God called me to serve Japanese students for the past 12 years; my desire is to use this experience to lead students from different countries to understand Christianity not only as a Canadian experience, but as a life experience and journey.
With Canada receiving students from around the world, Vancouver has many Japanese students who regularly attend FOCUS Clubs, Bible studies, and churches. Many are serious seekers! One student recently shared his understanding of a personal relationship with Jesus, as opposed to it being just a religion. A young lady was inspired by the genuine brothers and sisters she met at an Equipper Conference in LA, and she seeks to be like them. We are encouraged and pray that God will continue to guide these students to His truth!
It is crucial to start equipping students for their return as soon as they arrive in Canada. This evangelism approach prepares students to know and experience Christ beyond their journey in Canada, so they can understand it as a life-long journey where they will bring the gospel wherever they go. Although not all students return to their home country after graduation, they do visit families and friends. Therefore, empowering returnees to become disciple-makers wherever the Lord brings them will strategically impact the world!
